The common cold is caused by a number of factors that are related to the weakening of protective functions in our body. Most of us know these protective function as our immune system. Depending on the developed immunity, the signs of a dreaded cold can manifest themselves in a number of ways.
The Most Common Symptoms of a Cold:
Runny nose or Congestion
Sore or scratchy throat
Weakness and Fatigue
While over the counter medicines, such as Tylenol, cough syrups, and decongestants can help you feel temporary relief, there are also many natural remedies that can be used to actually defeat your cold.
What You Can Do:
- Warm Compress. Placing a warm compress or washcloth on your forehead can help relieve nasal congestion and other head cold symptoms.
- Inhalation. Inhaling steam can decrease the inflamed nasal passage in which you are experiencing symptoms such as a runny nose, sneezing, and itchy eyes. A common example of inhalation is placing a towel over your head and inhaling the steam from a pot of boiling water. Some people even like to add a dash of essential oils to boiling water, such as eucalyptus mint, for an increasing effect.
- Drink Tea. Tea can work wonders by soothing a sore throat and providing a boost of cold-fighting antioxidants! Although Green Tea tends to offer the most benefits, Black Tea, White Tea, and Chamomile can help you through to recovery as well!
